Ackley German Band
Ackley's German Band has roots dating
back to the turn of the last century. The current German Band
was reorganized in 1992, with members from diversified backgrounds
who love music and find it fun to get those instruments out again.
The group is comprised of teachers, active and retired band
directors, merchants, farmers, retired nursing home administrators,
a dietitian, college students, high school students and our-own
mortician. Members have come from Ackley, Wellsburg, Iowa
Falls, and Parkersburg...new members are welcome any time! The
band plays all kinds of music marches, show tunes and polkas.
The audience is encouraged to put on their polka shoes and dance
along. It's a proven fact that the more people who dance, the
better the band plays! Since their reorganization in 1992, the
German Band has played a concert each year in Pioneer Hall and
several other venues at the Iowa State Fair, where the audience
dances and joins in the fun. In addition the band can be found
at many local celebrations and lawn chair nights in nearby
communities. In recent years the band has performed in Ackley,
Alden, Dows, Williams, Stanhope, Jewell, Eldora, Grundy Center,
Amana, Mason City, Sheffield, and Wellsburg.
