Good
Neighbor Ordinances
The City of
Ackley requests the cooperation of all residents in adhering to their
Good Neighbor Ordinances. This collection of ordinances ensures that
the actions of a neighbor does not lower the value or enjoyment of
neighboring properties.
The ordinances prohibit the
accumulation for storage of junk and junk vehicles on property unless
kept in an enclosed structure.
Lots and properties shall be cut and
mowed so that all plant growth other than trees, shrubs, and
cultivated plants shall be less than ten inches at all times.
No more than 3 animals per household
are allowed. No animals can be allowed to run at large within
the corporate limits of the city. No dogs shall be allowed to
create any annoyance or disturbance to persons by frequent howling or
barking. Dogs over four months of age must be licensed with the
city. Dogs defined as vicious must be confined or leashed and
muzzled.
Dangerous animals are prohibited.
Property owners are responsible for
clearing ice and snow from sidewalks within 24 hours.
Property owners are also responsible for maintaining the parking
by mowing grass and trimming trees and shrubs. Trees in the
parking can be removed only with city approval. Dead or diseased
trees in the parking will be removed by the city.
Other pertinent
ordinances:
On street parking is not allowed from
November 1 to April 30 for snow removal purposes.
Garbage pickup is every Friday with
curbside recycling on every other Friday. Additional garbage
exceeding 35 gallons or 50 pounds per week must be tagged for pickup.
Property owners are responsible for all
costs associated with the installation, replacement, and maintenance
of the water service pipe from the water main to the building served,
and for the installation, replacement, and maintenance of sewer
service to the city main. It is illegal for any residence to
discharge groundwater or roof run-off from sump pumps and downspouts
into the public sanitary sewer system.
Zoning regulation should be checked
before the establishment of any business takes place.
No construction of buildings, fences,
or additions to structures should take place unless all proper permits
have been issued and ordinances checked. The ordinances cited
