| In January of 1999 the
Lynn Peavey Company, dealers in Fingerprint Supplies, came out
with a poster showing one partial (known) fingerprint found on a
matchbook cover and challenged any officer to compare it to 825
ink-ed fingerprints listed on that poster and find the match.
Within hours he found the match. Doug Peavey, President of the
Company, sent Scallon a letter informing him that “he was the
first person in the entire United States to actually find the
match”, thus winning him (only!) an AFIX Tracker T-Shirt.
On February 20, 1980 he received the American Police Service
medal, and on December 4, 1997 he was awarded the Distinguished
Police Service medal from the American Police Hall of Fame. Also
in 1997 he received a Certificate of Appreciation for
Distinguished Contributions to the National Defense from the
National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves.
In 1992 Mid-Iowa Stepping Stones issued Scallon a certificate of
appreciation for outstanding performance in community service for
his assistance in helping battered women and their families.

Officer
Jessica Saleh
I
was born October 7, 1981 in Iowa Falls. I lived with my mother
and my father and two brothers. Growing up my brothers and I
loved playing cops and robbers. I of course was always the cop,
and from then on I have always wanted to be an officer. I always
wanted to protect people, and be there for when I was needed. My
first meeting with a police officer was when I got a speeding
ticket my senior year of high school. I knew from that moment on
I wanted go into law enforcement.
I graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 2000. After high
school I stayed close to home and attended Ellsworth Community
College. I graduated from Ellsworth in 2002 with an AA degree in
criminology. I then attended UNI for 2 1/2 years and worked as a
security guard at College Square Mall. I enjoyed wearing the
badge and preparing for the real thing. I graduated from UNI
in the fall of 2004 with a BA in criminology.
While at UNI borrowed a finger printing kit from the Ackley Police
Department for a speech in Anthropology class. When I returned it
Chief Scallon asked if I was interested in becoming an officer
with the Ackley Police Department. I was interviewed and passed
the physical testing, barely, but I passed it. I took the rest of
the required testing and was hired on March 1, 2005. I
commuted back and forth from Cedar Falls to Ackley on a regular
basis until I began renting a house on Main Street in May 2005.
In September 2005 I became an official member of the community when I
bought a house on State Street.
I
am enjoying getting to know the people of the community.
With my German heritage and love of Sauerkraut I feel I will fit
right in. My long range plans include staying in Ackley and
serving the community the best I can. My interests are music,
playing the guitar, hanging out with friends, and meeting new
people. I also like movies, fishing because it’s relaxing,
collecting rocks and coins. My prized possessions are my Bible,
my grandpa’s sword, my mother’s ring, and my dogs. I was in a
band when I was at Ellsworth, but we broke up when she joined the
army and I went to UNI.
Officer Mitch Kappel
I was born,
raised, attended school, and played a multitude of sports right
here in Ackley. After graduation in 2003 I attended
Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. While there I
played football for the Panthers and graduated in 2005 with an AS
Degree in Criminal Justice.
I
became a reserve officer in 2004 for the Ackley Police Department,
and was promoted to a full-time officer later that same year.
In 2005 I attended Hawkeye Community College and received my Law
Enforcement Certification.
There are many reasons I became interested in law enforcement.
I enjoy helping people, the excitement from day to day, and the
new challenges you have the opportunity to face and overcome.
I excited about gaining more experience with the APD, and hope to
become an Iowa State Trooper in the future.
Officer Stacey Kreimeyer
I was born,
raised, and still currently reside in the big city of Geneva. I
graduated from AGWSR High School in 2003 and decided to live at home
while I attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City. I
graduated from Hamilton College in April of 2005 with an A.A.S. in
Criminal Justice.
Not long
after my college graduation, I was contacted by Chief Scallon with a
proposal of being an Ackley Reserve Police Officer. I soon
accepted, and in March of 2006 I became a Reserve Officer. As a
Reserve Officer I worked only a few times including Sauerkraut Days
and when other officers were on vacations, however, I was in haven
being in a uniform and in the patrol car.
When it
came time to renew my physical test in February 2007, I was informed
that they would be accepting applications for a full-time officer.
I quickly jumped at the opportunity. After passing the physical
test, the interview, and the P.O.S.T. and M.M.P.I., I finally received
the handshake and was told welcome aboard. I was really
disappointed to leave my current job at Honk N' Hollar (diner in
Hampton) since I had been employed there for five years, however, they
accepted that I was finally doing what I went to college for.
In May
2007, after riding along, watching and learning, I was ultimately a
full-time Ackley Police Officer. I attended Hawkeye Community
College from September 2007 to November 2007 where I received my law
enforcement certification.
I have
always been interested in law enforcement. I'm not sure if it
was the show COPS or the CSI programs that I have watched over the
years. I do know that the possibility of something different
every single day will keep me around for a long time to come.
Officer Adam Winkowitsch
I was raised in
Wellsburg and attended AGWSR. After graduation in 2005 I
attended Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. I majored in
Police Science and in the Spring of 2007 I was accepted for an
internship with the Iowa State Patrol District 9, in Cedar Falls.
Upon completing 192 hours of intern work I graduated in May 2007 with
an AAS Degree. I then began working as a Jailer at the Hardin
County Jail in Eldora. I continue to work there part time as
well as being a full time officer in Ackley.
I enjoy helping people,
facing new challenges on a day to day basis, and meeting/dealing with
many different types of people.
