City of Ackley, (population 1599), is seeking a full time Chief of Police. Resumes will be accepted until position is filled.
The Police Chief is under the direct supervision of the Mayor. Applicant must be a self-motivated and dedicated individual who will have the primary responsibility to oversee the police department. The Chief shall enforce all laws of the State of Iowa and City of Ackley Code of Ordinances, supervise and coordinate activities of subordinate officers and perform related duties as required; and oversee the day-to-day activities to include all administrative functions of a law enforcement agency.
ILEA certification is required with a minimum of 5 years law enforcement experience. Previous supervisory experience preferred along with a criminal justice degree. Candidate must be professional, people oriented, flexible, attention to detail, good communication skills, and have a passion for the law to which include integrity, honesty, and ability to be stern. Out of state certified applicants will be required to obtain Iowa Certification through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Applicant must reside in Ackley within 1 year of job offer and possess a valid vehicle operator’s license and firearms permit. Applicant must pass a physical examination and drug testing.
