SPECIAL MEETING

March 25, 2026

ACKLEY CITY COUNCIL met in special session March 25, 2026 in the Ackley Council Chambers with Mayor Michael Nuss presiding.  The meeting was called to order at 6:15 pm.  Council members present: Maliah Roelfs, Mike Wessels, Dan Scallon, Steven Ackerman. Absent: Mike Abbas. Quorum present.

Roelfs moved, Ackerman seconded, to approve the March 25, 2026 Agenda, as listed.  Ayes-4. Absent-1.  Motion carried.

Clerk Dennis presented the proposed FY27 budget. Wessels moved, Roelfs seconded to approve the FY27 proposed budget, as presented. Ayes-4. Absent-1.  Motion carried.

Scallon moved, Roelfs seconded to set public hearing date for proposed budget for fiscal year ending June 30, 2027 to April 14, 2026 at 6 pm in the Ackley Council Chambers. Ayes-4. Absent-1.  Motion carried.

2 bids were presented for temporary residential garbage services. McDowells & Sons bid was $9.50 per household per month and Knight Sanitation was $3.52 per household per month. Discussion regarding the temporary residential dumpster rentals. Roelfs moved, Scallon seconded to approve bid to Knight Sanitation in the amount of $3.52 per household for temporary residential garbage services. Ayes-4. Absent-1.  Motion carried.

Dennis reported the estimated dollar amount for a special election as well as the procedures and timeline on the mayor vacancy. Scallon moved, Ackerman seconded to fill the vacancy by appointment at the April 8, 2026 council meeting with the candidate deadline being April 6, 2026. Ayes-4. Absent-1.  Motion carried.

Roelfs asked council if they had any questions or concerns regarding the wage study information for Resolution 26-12 Setting Wages for Employees. With no further discussion, Roelfs moved, Ackerman seconded to approve Resolution 26-12. Roll call vote: Ayes-Scallon, Ackerman, Roelfs. Nays-Wessels. Absent-Abbas. Motion carried.

Ackerman moved, Roelfs seconded to approve Resolution 26-13 Authorizing the Mayor Pro Tem and City Clerk to Execute Certain Financial Institution Documents. Roll call vote: Ayes- Wessels, Scallon, Ackerman, Roelfs. Absent-Abbas. Motion carried.

Roelfs moved, Ackerman seconded, to adjourn at 6:35 pm.  Ayes-4. Absent-1. Motion carried.
