SPECIAL MEETING
April 16, 2025
ACKLEY CITY COUNCIL met in special session April 16, 2025 in the Ackley Council Chambers with Mayor Michael Nuss presiding. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm. Council members present: Chuy Flores, Maliah Roelfs, Mike Abbas, Judy Crawford. Absent: Dan Scallon. Quorum present.
Crawford moved, Flores seconded, to approve the April 16, 2025 Agenda, as listed. Ayes-4. Motion carried.
Abbas moved, Roelfs seconded to open the public hearing for proposed budget for fiscal year ending June 30, 2026 at 6:01 pm. Ayes-4. Motion carried.
No comments or concerns were made or received.
Abbas moved, Flores seconded to close the public hearing for proposed budget for fiscal year ending June 30, 2026 at 6:02 pm. Ayes-4. Motion carried.
Crawford moved, Roelfs seconded to pass Resolution 25-15 Adopting FY26 budget. Roll call vote: Ayes-Flores, Roelfs, Abbas, Crawford. Absent-Scallon. Motion carried.
Crawford moved, Flores seconded to pass Resolution 25-16 Setting FY26 salaries/wages for City of Ackley employees. Roll call vote: Ayes-Roelfs, Abbas, Crawford, Flores. Absent-Scallon. Motion carried.
Roelfs moved, Abbas seconded to pass Resolution 25-17 Authorizing FY26 budgeted transfers. Roll call vote: Ayes-Abbas, Crawford, Flores, Roelfs. Absent-Scallon. Motion carried.
Discussion regarding the Prairie Bridges 28E agreement. With the new camping season ahead, the Council is wanting to get the agreement in place. The City and the Board have been working on this agreement for roughly 3 years. Options discussed on how to proceed to get the agreement finalized which included a water shut off notice with so many days to present the agreement, shutting off the water until the agreement is finalized, selling the land and leaving the City with zero financial responsibilities, or sending a letter of notice for a joint meeting. Guidance by the Council to have the Clerk draft a letter requiring a joint meeting to be held on May 7, 2025 at 6 pm in the Council Chambers.
Dennis reported 3 bid letters were mailed out for tree removal at 1117 4th Ave. with one response. Abbas moved, Crawford seconded to approve bid in the amount of $2,200 to Affordable Tree Service for tree removal at 1117 4th Ave. Ayes-4. Motion carried.
2 bids were presented for capping the water/sewer service lines at 740 Main St. Crawford moved, Flores seconded to approve bid in the amount of $2,000 to Williams Underground Services to cap the water/sewer service lines at 740 Main St using demolition funds. Ayes-4. Motion carried.
Roelfs moved, Flores seconded, to adjourn at 6:26 pm. Ayes-4. Motion carried.
