SPECIAL MEETING

June 26, 2024

 

ACKLEY CITY COUNCIL met in special session June 26, 2024 in the Ackley Council Chambers with Mayor Michael Nuss presiding.  The meeting was called to order at 6:02 pm.  Council members present: Mike Abbas, Judy Crawford, Dan Scallon. Absent: Maliah Roelfs and Chuy Flores. Quorum present.

Abbas moved, Crawford seconded, to approve the June 26, 2024 Agenda, as listed.  Ayes-3. Absent-2.  Motion carried.

Mayor Nuss presented the Emergency Medical Services Agreement and Lease. City of Eldora will be having their special meeting on Thursday. Chuy Flores arrives at 6:05 pm. There were some additional changes brought forth between City of Ackley Attorney, Seth Schroeder and City of Eldora Attorney, Erika Allen. The change to item #7 of the Lease, under Maintenance and Repair was discussed, at length. A. Budweg, Eldora City Administrator, addressed Council on Eldora’s thought process on some of the older equipment, that is being leased, and its life expectancy. Flores shared concerns with Eldora replacing equipment that fails and the City of Ackley will be out of that particular equipment, in the event, the merger terminates. Crawford inquired as to who can spend the funds from Eldora’s Ambulance Foundation and if that failed equipment can be replaced with those funds. O. Spencer, Eldora-Ackley EMS personnel, expressed concerns with increasing the wages and still having a hard time getting staff.  Crawford moved, Scallon seconded to approve Resolution 24-23 Authorizing the Mayor Entering into Lease and Emergency Medical Services Agreement between Ackley Volunteer Ambulance Service and Eldora EMS. Roll call vote: Ayes-Abbas, Crawford, Scallon, Flores. Absent-Roelfs. Motion carried.   

Clerk Dennis requested guidance on a utility account at 405 Sherman Ave with a 2-inch meter. Dennis presented suggestions from Attorney Schroeder. Crawford moved, Flores seconded to have the city attorney draft a letter requiring the account be paid in full before the next monthly shut off procedure. If the account is not paid in full, the account will be shut off. Ayes-4. Absent-1. Motion carried.

Scallon moved, Crawford seconded, to adjourn at 6:40 pm.  Ayes-4. Absent-1. Motion carried.
