SPECIAL MEETING
June 3, 2026
ACKLEY CITY COUNCIL met in special session June 3, 2026 in the Ackley Council Chambers with Mayor Michael Abbas presiding. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 pm. Council members present: Maliah Roelfs, Mike Wessels, Roderick Neely. Absent: Dan Scallon and Steven Ackerman. Quorum present.
Roelfs moved, Neely seconded, to approve the June 3, 2026 Agenda, as listed. Ayes-all. Motion carried.
S. Schroeder, City Attorney, was present on behalf of the City. M. Fistler, B. Schipper, K. Neuberger, J. Schipper, J. June present on behalf of the Friends of Prairie Bridges.
Discussion regarding the proposed lease between the City and the Friends of Prairie Bridges for Prairie Bridges Park. 6 remaining concerns were addressed with the board agreeing to 3 of the city’s concerns – those being terms on lease length, responsibility of infrastructure/service lines, and billing of water/sewer/garbage services.
D. Scallon, council member, arrived at the meeting at 5:50 pm.
Schroeder cautioned council on naming Friends as a loss payee. After further discussion, council agreed to name the Friends of Prairie Bridges as loss payee on the city’s insurance policy for property and equipment located at the Park. In addition, the City has agreed to do an ordinance to not sell the park, which will clear up one of the remaining concerns of the Friends. The city agrees that in the event of termination of lease, all equipment and fixtures, bought by the Friends, will stay at the park for use at the park and not be removed from the park for any other city purpose.
No action could be taken on Resolution 26-03. This resolution will be addressed when modifications on the proposed lease are presented.
Neely moved, Roelfs seconded, to adjourn at 6:09 pm. Ayes-all. Motion carried.
